It is said that the remains of St. Thomas were originally buried at a beach in 78 AD, marking the spot where the original church was constructed. Over time, the relics were moved to their current location further inland, where the present-day church now stands, preserving the legacy of St. Thomas.
The church's historical significance is immense. It even caught the attention of Pope John Paul II, who visited and offered prayers at the tomb on February 5, 1986.
